Literary Lunch Tables

It's Guy Friday, and the question of the day is this: Which characters from literature would you have sit at your lunch table?

I have been so enormously distracted by Kay Cassidy's wonderful post on O.W.L. Books, and I've bored countless students with this. There are obvious tables that one can make up with sporty boys, academic boys (would Harry Potter be there?), and boys who would be popular with the girls (like Alex Rider!), but we were trying to think who would be at a lunch table with Percy Jackson. He's kind of a goof. I came up with

Dan Cahill from The 39 Clues series.

Stan from Beaudoin’s Going Nowhere Faster

Mitty from Cooney’s Code Orange

They are all sort of slackers but have the gumption when they need it. The other list I came up with was:

Boys who are always in trouble, but not in a good way

(I.E. No, you are not dating my daughter)

Iggy from Going’s St. Iggy

Ian from Harmon’s Skate

Matthew from Van Draanen’s Rules of Survival

Toby from McCormick’s My Brother’s Keeper

From Carter’s Walkaway

John from Klass’ You Don’t Know Me

It struck me that this would be a really good way to suggest books to kids, and would make an awesome bulletin board.

What lunch table would YOU be at? That'll give you something to do today while you're gluing books together.

  1. Well, I would sit with Harry and Ron but not The Wimpy boy.

  2. Well, I'm only three days late, but I love this question! I have no idea where I sit, but it's a fun thing to think about :)
