We have come a long way since my grandmother was told that SHE didn't need to vote because her husband would be voting.
There is still a long way to go.
But, as Bilbo Baggins found, there is only one direction.
“Go back?” he thought. “No good at all! Go sideways? Impossible! Go forward? Only thing to do! On we go!” So up he got, and trotted along with his little sword held in front of him and one hand feeling the wall, and his heart all of a patter and a pitter."
Thank you. I have no words for students today, who are worried their parents might be deported, who have been told by fellow students they shouldn't be here, who have taken tiny steps toward recognizing their sexual orientation, etc., etc. Borrowing from literature for some comfort may help.
ReplyDeleteGood old Bilbo! There is great wisdom in that.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Need this today.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I needed a post like this one this morning. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I don't have to share a vote with my husband. :) What was it Mrs. Banks said we'd do? "Our daughters daughters will adore us and they'll sing in grateful chorus 'Well done, Sister Suffragettes!'"
ReplyDeletePerfectly well put, by you and Tolkien.
