There seems to enough interest to have a 48 Hour Book Challenge next June, after BEA but before Father's Day and summer gets complicated. This would put it Friday through Sunday, June 9 through 11, 2017.BEFORE that, for the many new bloggers who visited last week, think about these things:
Marvelous Middle Grade Monday- Visit! Comment! Meet new blogs! (Weekly)
It's Monday, What Are You Reading- Again, a great place to get recommendations! (Weekly)
The Cybils Awards- Coming up soon in August. Would you like to judge? What will you nominate? This is a fantastic way to keep up with all of the great new books for students from kindergarten to high school. I'm the Middle Grade Fiction (Realistic) Organizer.
Basics:
1. Choose 48 consecutive hours for reading during June 9-11, 2017. If you work on Friday, you can start at 6:00 p.m. and go until 6:00 p.m. If you have a graduation on Sunday, you can start and end earlier.
2. We'll have a sign up for the start and end of the challenge.
3. Use the list to visit other blogs and see what people are reading. In the past, I think we allowed 1/2 hour of social media for every 4 hours read.
4. Keep track of your hours and numbers of books for the final tally for bragging rights!
I'm vaguely thinking about prizes-- are they necessary? Would they have to be hard cover? Do they really encourage people to participate?
It's more fun if we have more people, so I want people to feel they have input.
Sorry I didn't reply to your earlier post! I would love to participate! That's right at the end of my school year, so it would be a nice way to move into summer! Plus I'm starting a new job this coming fall (I'm going to be a media specialist in an elementary!!!!!!!!) so it would be fun to do this right after I finish my first year.

ReplyDeleteConsider it on the calendar! To me, prizes are not necessary (though a post afterwards listing all the people who made it to 20 hours, say, and highlighting the top finisher would be nice). But then, I already have a lot of books...

ReplyDeleteHi! It is in my calendar! Prizes aren't necessary for me--they may inspire others. Maybe a few of us with blogs would be able to post an informational page and link it to your page to keep the excitement up! I'll be on maternity leave in October, so I could set up a post one day that month. Let me know if you are interested, and I will copy and paste the information from you page and link it to you! ;)
