It's All Downhill From Here

It's All Downhill from Here

Night, P.J. Creepover #10: It's All Downhill From Here
16 October 2012, Simon Spotlight

Maggie's parents are dragging her, her friend Sophie, and her brother Simon hours from their home in Denver to look at the old Wharton mansion, which they would like to buy so that they could run a ski resort. The house is old and creepy, but Maggie seems to be the only one who can see the ghost of Old Man Wharton. Her parents think she is being bratty just because she doesn't move, but things quickly become more dangerous than that. When the parents go in to town to take care of paperwork, Simon disobeys, goes skiing, and is nearly killed. Maggie manages to uncover the mystery of why Old Man Wharton has stipulated in his will that the property is never to be used for skiing, but not before the ghost tries to kill Simon yet again!
Strengths: If your R.L. Stine books are falling to pieces, this is a great series to recommend. Pleasantly creepy, totally unrealistic, but just the thing for girls who like ghosts and being scared... just a little!
Weaknesses: The ending was a bit rushed, but I was impressed by the fluidity of the dialogue and the prose.
