M...I'm with you on blogger! Very frustrated :)

Middle school is SO hard as far as finding great books, especially for girls who want the romance etc etc. My daughter has kept reading, through 8th grade, and I work to find stuff for her.

Frequent harsh language and sexual content just doesn't belong in a middle school library imo. I can't think of anything that we've "discovered" lately that you probably don't know about :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03789250398792504412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22559214.post-55203760094381336752012-01-13T00:47:07.878-05:002012-01-13T00:47:07.878-05:00Funny, Ms Yingling, because I thought Miss Peregri...Funny, Ms Yingling, because I thought Miss Peregrine ultimately felt more like a young YA book. Sure, the pictures were a neat gimmick, and there was something rather adult-novel-ish about it, but the way the story played out felt like a not-very-original older MG/young YA adventure novel.

I have a difficult time with A.S. King too. I hated the one about the pirate girl (finished it, but hated it) and required much, much blogger love to put Vera Dietz and Everyone Sees the Ants on my list. I'll see how I feel when I get there. It may have been the main character in the pirate book.Bibliovorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08642058689885973447noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22559214.post-68889453692836968552012-01-12T17:11:15.897-05:002012-01-12T17:11:15.897-05:00I enjoyed Everybody Sees the Ants, but I can see h...I enjoyed Everybody Sees the Ants, but I can see how it's not for everyone. I haven't read the others, although I get the impression that Miss Peregrine is more an adult book passed off as YA (I refer it to is the YA book that was written so adults don't feel silly about reading YA book).GreenBeanTeenQueenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08708155058381407531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22559214.post-71005195226937129902012-01-11T14:29:21.740-05:002012-01-11T14:29:21.740-05:00Annie, I put that book on reserve at the library. ...Annie, I put that book on reserve at the library. Sometimes it seems as if the author went out of her way to show that the main character liked boys. At one point I was screaming at the book, okay you play football but your not a lesbian I get it can we move on please.Dorethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08676911030014718403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22559214.post-49786555565611831892012-01-11T14:13:45.538-05:002012-01-11T14:13:45.538-05:00Hi! It's very helpful for writers and readers who want to explore different genres in children's and ya literature.Blessy Mathewhttp://www.reflectingrunes.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22559214.post-79824923099982922032012-01-11T11:06:54.867-05:002012-01-11T11:06:54.867-05:00I think that Miss Peregrine's IS an adult book...I think that Miss Peregrine's IS an adult book... I think it, and a few others lately, have ended up on the YA shelves b/c the publishers know that that section is getting a lot of foot traffic from adults who enjoyed Hunger Games. I get teens and their parents in my library asking for large print versions of the classics because the print in the regular books is apparently too small and hurts their eyes. I haven't read any of these yet, but I will keep them in mind the next time I need a good YA recommendation!Katiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14862498395141185996noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22559214.post-73797977278458680352012-01-11T08:34:49.173-05:002012-01-11T08:34:49.173-05:00Just finished THE LIFE AND OPINIONS OF AMY FINAWIT...Just finished THE LIFE AND OPINIONS OF AMY FINAWITZ by Laura Toffler Corrie--it's on the upper end of middle grade.
