I particularly appreciate books that highlight different kinds of families in a natural way. They give me the same feeling as Catherynne Valente's Fairyland series: this is an adult writing books that other adults will buy to give their children, rather than writing books for children.Kim Aippersbachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02556947405633680410noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22559214.post-78390435212953897642015-09-21T09:36:58.166-04:002015-09-21T09:36:58.166-04:00The Cooking club books are new to me, & I know...The Cooking club books are new to me, & I know some young students who will enjoy them. They sound like fun and serious all together, just like life. As for The Marvels, I know I'll read it sometime. I enjoyed the others, as did some of my students in the past. Your words make me wonder how persistent they will be in figuring out some of those pictures and their content. I'll glance at the pictures but young readers get immersed in what they see. They seem to be up her ally, she loves The Mix books, but this one isn't working for her.<br />I really enjoyed The Marvels. I wasn't sure what to make of the beginning, since it did tell about so many generations. I'm reading it with my daughter right now, and so far, we're about 1/2 way through the illustrations, she's able to infer almost all of what is in the pictures. I'll have to see if she stays as interested in the story. I think she will.Michele Knotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05087579707297009719noreply@blogger.com
