I feel like everything I've been reading lately is a bit too old for the 3rd and 4th graders at my school, this one sounds like it might be perfectly suited for them!Michele Knotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05087579707297009719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22559214.post-73670056484322962122021-05-11T17:44:35.595-04:002021-05-11T17:44:35.595-04:00These both sound fun. It's a fun idea to base a story on finding a time capsule and trying to put everything together from that. The Best Worst Summer has a really intriguing premise—if I ever have time to add more books to the endless stack in my bookcase, I'll keep it in mind! The Girl's Guide to Building a Fort sounds fun as well, though I am also confused as to why that needs to be gendered (and it's disappointing that the projects may not be accessible to all kids). Thanks so much for the great reviews!Max @ Completely Full Bookshelfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04466405075405012116noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22559214.post-16101713275665435812021-05-10T20:10:30.503-04:002021-05-10T20:10:30.503-04:00The time capsule sounds like a fun way to explore ...The time capsule sounds like a fun way to explore the past for kids today! And I agree that the title could have just been something like The Ultimate Guide to Building a Fort... :)
Love the cover of that book though..
Magic Monday – A Little Music to Lift Moods & Worry WorriesLady In Readhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13791002474933656220noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22559214.post-3625258698872684532021-05-10T14:18:37.664-04:002021-05-10T14:18:37.664-04:00The Best Worst Summer sounds like a terrific summe...The Best Worst Summer sounds like a terrific summer read. Although I felt myself cringe at the thought of 1989 as being "the old days." I remember that time so clearly, wearing a lot Liz Claiborne flowing dresses to work etc. and I had a five-year-old daughter. Readers love time capsules and it's clever to choose a year when your parents would have been teens. Sounds like this will be popular among at school.
I really love Girl's Guide to Building a Fort -- can't tell you how many I tried to build in trees and on the ground in the late 50s. So much fun. We used a lot of imaginations. But, craft books were my thing -- so this book would appeal to me. And, I agree, this book should be gender neutral. Great summer choices!
