Guy Friday-- Goodbye, Guy.

Goodbye, guy!

That sound you hear? It's me humming Sunrise, Sunset from Fiddler on the Roof to myself and sobbing gently into my tea. (Actually, I'm fine but Picky Reader cried at the airport.) Vid (aka Surly Teen Boy) is leaving at 1:25 p.m. for the Philippines today. I'll see him again in May of 2013. He looked tall and strong and confident, and he will have an amazing year. Not only will he be able to take care of himself, he has the Naga City Rotary and an experienced host family to help him.

Okay. Enough personality leakage for now. Instead, let's all sing!

"Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?
I don't remember growing older When did they?
When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he grow to be so tall?
Wasn't it yesterday When they were small?
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as we gaze."

And now I need to fumigate his room. Maybe I can use it for sewing

  1. I get to do this next year: I'm sending my oldest off to New Deli with the Rotary club... I'm glad I'm not the only (insane parent?) one doing this. I hope he has a great year!

  3. I know how you feel - I remember when my daughter went off to China two years ago and before I knew it she was back (3 weeks ago). Remeber though, there is Skype and email and all sorts of ways to keep in touch - even if he is in a remote part of the Philipppines, so he won't feel too far away. But what a great experience for him to have.

  4. owie (sp?) Owwie?

    Whichever.

mine are still small enough so that such a day is far away, but still I can imagine what I wreck I would be driving home from the airport!

  5. Two of my cousins just finished church missions in the Phillipines and LOVED the people there ... so I bet he will have a wonderful experience.
Though that is easy for me to say as I don't have any kids. :/

  6. What a sweet post! As much as I like your book reviews, the little glimpses you provide into your personal life as very welcome, also!
